Intentionally Beautiful: A Vermont Wedding Captured in Documentary Film Photography
I was so excited to photograph the wedding of Haley and Aaron in Burlington, Vermont at The Intervale Center. As soon I stepped into the home where everyone was getting ready, I was taken aback by the warmth and intentionality of this couple.
My only hope is that even just an ounce of the love and joy that overflowed that day is represented in these photographs.
The Intervale is a non-profit dedicated to community food systems and sustainable agriculture. The campus is a stunning 36-acre farm with trails and open space along the Winooski River, and it was the perfect location for this wonderful couple.
Haley and Aaron are a wonderful couple who have a strong connection to Vermont. They both grew up in different parts of the country but met in college over a decade ago. They share a passion for cooking and vegan food, which was evident in the celebratory dinner they had for their guests. They worked with their caterer to make sure the meal was a joyful, relaxed dinner party that reflected their personalities and values.
One of the most important aspects of the wedding for Haley and Aaron was to make it both fun and intimate. They spent a lot of time working on their ceremony and vows with their close friend and celebrant, Ari. Their vows were mutual and personal, reflecting their relationship and the reasons why they wanted to get married.
Another important element of the wedding was the inclusion of playful moments throughout the weekend. Friends hosted an impromptu house party, their families surprised them with a performance during the reception, and everyone learned a line dance to September by Earth Wind and Fire! The atmosphere was joyful and electric.
Haley's dad built the chuppah, and her mom quilted the chuppah top using silk from her maternal grandmother and cyanotype prints. The florists at June Farm did an amazing job fulfilling their floral vision, adorning the structure with bright vibrant marigolds. The chuppah was a beautiful and personal touch that reflected their values and personalities.
Haley wore a tea-length Markarian dress with long “wing” details at the shoulders and primarily vintage accessories from both her grandmothers. Aaron wore a blue suit from Theory, a Luca Faloni linen shirt with a band collar, and Lucchese cowboy boots. Their outfits reflected their personalities and the joy of the day.
I am so grateful to not only have had the opportunity to be apart of this day, but also meet these two and witness the intentional love they have for each other and every single guest in attendance.
I was immensely thankful to be a part of this amazing event. Captured primarily with 35mm film and documentary photography to capture the joy and magic of the event. H & A’s day was featured and published on Anti-Bride.
